What is EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment)?

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA); a process carried out in order to identify the environmental impacts of development projects. This process is not a decision-making process in itself; it is developing with the decision-making process and a process that supports it.

EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment), under the National Environmental Policy Act in 1969, which came into force in the United States and met with the world is still the most effective environmental management system in United States, the EU countries, as well as other countries of the world that consolidates this place as time goes on. Since 7 February 1993 is being implemented in our country and it became a legal practice in order to assess the environmental effects of public and private sector projects.

In order to provide for rapidly increasing population, in relation to developing technology, industrialization should increase development as well. This increase leads to rapid depletion of natural resources.

Purpose of EIA; is protecting environmental values against economic policies without hindering economic and social development. Detecting all the possible negative environmental impacts of a planned activity beforehand and ensuring that necessary precautions are taken.

Unless Environmental Impact Assessment affirmative decision or Environmental Impact Assessment not required decisions are made, no approval, authorization, incentive, construction and use permit pertinent to projects would be given; the project cannot be investment nor be awarded.
